Egypt from
Lagos and Abuja.
Cairo is a few hours from Lagos, which makes Egypt a realistic choice for the festive season, Easter or a long family break. Start the visa early and the rest is simple.
Nigeria to Egypt
at a glance.
| Flights | Lagos has non-stop flights to Cairo, taking roughly 5 to 6 hours. From Abuja and other cities, flights may be non-stop or connect, depending on the schedule. |
|---|---|
| Time difference | Egypt is one hour ahead of Nigeria, and two hours ahead during Egyptian summer time. |
| Visa | Nigerian passport holders usually apply in advance through the Egyptian embassy in Abuja or the consulate in Lagos. Apply several weeks before travel. |
| Yellow fever | Egypt asks travellers arriving from countries with yellow fever risk, which include Nigeria, for a valid vaccination certificate. Carry your card. |
| Money | Naira is not exchanged in Egypt. Bring US dollars, or use an international card where accepted. |
| Best months | October to April. Christmas, New Year and Easter are popular, so book well ahead. |
Visa rules depend on your passport and can change. Confirm the current requirements on the official Egypt e-Visa portal or with the Egyptian embassy before you book flights.
What to think about
before you book.
The flight is short enough that a week in Egypt feels like a proper holiday rather than a long-haul marathon. Many Nigerian guests travel as families or in groups for Christmas, New Year or Easter, which are also busy times in Egypt, so the earlier you plan, the better the choice of hotels and cruise ships.
The visa is the part to start first. We can send a confirmed itinerary and hotel bookings to support your application once your trip is agreed. Allow several weeks for processing and do not book non-refundable flights until the visa is issued.
Groups and families
For larger groups we arrange bigger vehicles, connecting rooms and, where it helps, two guides so the group can split up on some days. Tell us the ages and numbers and we will plan around them.
